The most notable (and best) TV show to come out this week technically didn’t really launch this week – online streaming sneak peeks of the new Jim Carey comedy Kidding have started in the last few days. After watching episode one, I’m not entirely sold on the show – the premise feels more like it would make for a great film, but I don’t feel so confident about it as an episodic.

The show is about a Mister Rogers-type of TV presenter who is dealing with a marriage that has failed in the aftermath of the death of one of his sons. Much of the comedy in the show comes from the supporting characters in the show, with Jim Carey starring as the sad sack lead. Kidding won’t be for everyone, but I think it is at least worth a look.

Also this week is the Sons of Anarchy spin-off series Mayans MC and the TV version of The Purge. But the show I am most enthused about is the new BBC drama Press. I haven’t yet seen anything from it, but I’ve hungered for a TV drama set in a newspaper for some time now. TV could use a crusading reporter character on its screens – it’s been too long.

The staff at the Post however often put aside their moral and ethical standards in order to get the scoop.
