It was a huge week for well-known returning shows like Veep, Barry, and The Tick, along with the very high profile launch of The Twilight Zone reboot. Lost in it all is the launch of the pulpy Cinemax drama Warrior. Based on an idea Bruce Lee devised and shopped around to TV networks in the 70s (which was eventually nabbed and became Kung Fu), the idea is being brought to TV by Jonathan Topper (responsible for the fantastic pulp show Banshee) and Fast & The Furious director Justin Lin.
Alan Sepinwall at Rolling Stone sums it up well here:
A lush action drama, set in San Francisco’s Chinatown in 1878, Warrior feels like someone asked, “What if The Knick, but with hatchet fights?”
Don’t forget, if you’re looking for some ideas of things to watch, each week I am joined by Chris Yates on the Always Be Watching podcast where we discuss what we’ve watched that week. It’s not always the new shows of the moment. Often, it’s whatever the algorithm has thrown at us.

Blind 20-something Murphy is drifting through life in a haze of drunkenness, and her only friends are her understanding roommate Jess and Tyson, a sweet teenager she met when he saved her from a violent mugging. Murphy’s life is turned upside down when, while out for a walk with her guide dog, she stumbles upon what she is certain is Tyson’s lifeless body in the alley outside her apartment. When the body disappears by the time the police arrive, and they don’t seem inclined to investigate, Murphy clings onto the only thing that can keep her together: figuring out what happened to her friend.
