Some quick thoughts on what’s streaming this week:
Muppets Mayhem is the latest in what has been too-many poorly executed Muppets projects from Disney. Back in the 70s the Muppets were the counter-culture equivalent of what Adult Swim is today. This is another brand safe execution that fails badly to capture the spirit of the IP. In this show we follow The Electric Mayhem around - that should be wild, funny TV. But boy… it is not.
Air, the Matt Damon/Ben Affleck film was originally bought by Amazon for Prime Video, but was instead given a cinema release. It is now streaming and plays very well on the small screen. It’s a film I suspect I’ll stream with some regularity. Much of the film is a love letter to the 80s. But not everything in the 80s is as great as this film portrays. I write this newsletter while 1987’s Gor is streaming on my TV via Prime Video….
