Always Be Streaming... TV finales and a new Aussie crime comedy
Your weekly guide to the new and returning TV shows of the week
In terms of new product, it is a bit of a quiet week. In terms of TV though, it has been a wild one with so many big titles airing their final episodes. Following on from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel last weekend, this week saw the end of Succession, Ted Lasso, and Barry. There was also season finales for Drops of God, Yellowjackets, Dave, and Grease: Rise of The Pink Ladies.
(But real talk: surely the season finale of the Grease TV show will also be the series finale…).
I actually only started watching Ted Lasso properly in recent weeks, so am just getting through the middle of season 3 now. Looking forward to seeing what everyone was so disappointed about in the coming days…
In terms of new shows, I am eager to press play on The Days, which is an 8-episode drama looking at the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan back in 2011.
I’d also assume that there will be quite a bit of interest with my fellow countrymen in the new Australian dramedy Deadloch. Created by Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney, it is a comedy take on the procedural cop drama. My belief is that less is more and that is not the approach taken by the Kates. Instead a nicely grounded central character is surrounded by so many zany supporting characters that the show never quite generates any laughs. I found this to be a complete struggle, but I’m sure it will tickle others.
