The standout for the week is Apple TV+ show Sunny. I’m often pretty cold on Rashida Jones - I like her, but often she just comes across a bit flat on screen. She’s pretty spot on for Sunny, which is about a western woman living in Kyoto who is gifted a robot from the company her husband helps run after he and their son are killed in a plane accident.
It’s billed as a comedy, but it is more a light drama about a woman facing mysteries about the work her husband was up to.
Sunny is interesting and mostly pretty compelling. But it is hampered by a robot co-star who is too cartoonish for the rest of the world created by the show.
